While in listserv on the Web, type the command "post", then your subject line and message text.

How to unsubscribe

Send an e-mail to: listserv@shrsys.hslc.org
Leave the subject line blank

Your message should read:
signoff CAPHIS

If you are having any problems signing off the list please contact Andrea Kenyon, the List Moderator, at kenyon@collphyphil.org. Please save the error message and forward it to her so that she can share it with HSLC, the host of the list. Without this they can not identify and rectify the problem. In the meantime, Andrea will delete you from the list. This is not case-sensitive - you can type all the commands in upper or lower case as you prefer.

Keep in mind that typing the reply command posts your response to the entire list. While appropriate and useful for starting and continuing a discussion, personal postings should be sent only to the intended individual. To do this, send a response with the individual's e-mail address in the "TO:" line. Always check the TO: line before you send the message.

How to access the archives

Web-based access
The CAPHIS archives is located at http://www.hslc.org/archives/. At this site, the messages are broken down by month. You can access each month and read the headers. The messages are threaded and use of the forward and back buttons on the web page can take you through a complete thread.
E-mail access
You have many options of searching the messages located in each monthly archive using email.
If you want to search the entire archive by a keyword or topic to find postings, you need to send an email command message. Here are the steps:
  1. Send to listserv@hslc.org, not caphis@hslc.org.
  2. In the message type: (using "audiovisual" for example):
    • search 'audiovisual' in CAPHIS (Note those single quotes!)
    • this searches the entire text of the messages, including headers.
  3. You will get a response containing an index of messages plus some text from each message where the search key is mentioned. Note the item numbers (the first set of numbers on the left):
    • > search 'audiovisual' in caphis
    • -> 13 matches
  4. To retrieve the messages you want, send again to listserv@hslc.org
    • In the message type, for example:
      • getpost CAPHIS 1616 1624
      • the listserv will return these individual messages.
  5. You can refine your search in the following ways:
    • search 'audiovisuals' in caphis since 98/04/01
    • search 'collections' in caphis where sender contains 'smith'
    • search * in caphis where subject contains 'conference'
    • search * in caphis since 98/04/01 where subject contains 'conference'
  • Searches will find the text string no matter how it occurs. So a search for just EYE will turn up EYES, etc, as well as BULLSEYE.
  • Searches are limited to words and phrases within the single quotes.
  • Boolean operators (and, or, not), do not function.
